Game #5 - Helsinki Demons

Game Stats

We came into this game absolutely out-of-shape.  Half our team was still hung-over from the previous 2 weeks of straight partying and it showed tremendously.  Offensively we were terrible!  I will admit that I didn’t have a great game but I didn’t play bad at all.  I will also add that this is the first time in my life that I played a football game after having no sleep at all.  I was pretty anxious about the game and just so happens that my entire complex decided to have parties on the one night that I needed to get some sleep.  So I finally got out of bed around 5:30 and went to eat breakfast before loading the bus at 7:30 to head to Helsinki

Right out of the gate you could tell we were rusty.  I again saw double coverage the entire game so our slot receivers were single covered by linebackers.  The first play Lari threw a pretty ball to a wide open Mikko and he just dropped it.  This became the trend amongst our receivers.  Granted they hadn’t touched a football for 2 weeks but it was very frustrating to see us struggle so much.  It also didn’t help that we got new coach 4 days prior to this game, which means a brand new offense.  We still had to use several plays from our previous playbook so it was pretty difficult mixing the two.

Defense was outstanding they held the Demons to only 6 points and made some crucial stops.  Juha and Ryan played outstanding games.  Ryan probably had the best defensive games of the year thus far.  He was all over the field making many plays from the backside.  They attempted to run away from him but he still found ways to get to the ball.  Juha also played like a mad man!  That guy is an amazing athlete and makes plays that guys in America couldn't make.  He has no regard for his own body.

Personally, I felt totally helpless the entire game.  They punted 6 times but all were out of bounds, they kicked off 2 times but both were onside kicks and they knew exactly where I was on every play and at every moment during the game.  I give them major props because they had a great game plan and they executed it perfectly.  Their QB told me post-game that they spent the entire week plotting ways to keep the ball out of my hands.  And obviously they did very well; I only had 5 catches and 2 rushes.

This was definitely a game we should have won.  Anytime you hold a team to 6 points you should win, but we could not figure out a way to score.  I have no doubt that we will beat them the next time we see them.
