Week 4 - Work, Football Camps, and Misc.

Football Camps

This has been by far the most hectic week I have had.  I start each day around 7:30 with a nice 3 or 4 mile bike ride to work.  When I get off work I high-tale it to the field for football camps.  Sounds fun right, NO!  These kids are about 8 or 9 and don’t understand a word of English except for the F-bomb and various other obscenities!  And they think that I would approve of them throwin these words around!  I was absolutely shocked!  I attempt to show them how to throw the ball; they then proceed to throw it AT me!  Then the chase begins, and I am running for my life.   I can’t quite decide what's the bigger rush, punt returns with (11) grown men trying to take your head off, or these camps with (15) eight year olds trying to kill you.  I can’t say that I didn’t have a good time though!  They did catch me once because a kid grabbed on to my sweatshirt and it was either rip it or take my punishment, so I accepted my fate!  I was then dog piled and held down while 3 kids chunked footballs at my head,  added to that was a few wet willies, a wedgie, several jabs in the butt, and several kids using me as a trampoline!  Ha-ha, luckily the newspaper guy got evidence of this abuse!....As crazy and dirty-mouthed as they are, they mean well and I actually enjoy it!  They were fun kids and good athletes; just wish we could communicate our feelings verbally to each other though!  It really wears me out though.

When camps are over I have a good 2 or 3 hours till practice.  This was the last thing I physically feel like doing at the end of the day.

Epperson Treatment

So I get this message from Stan on Tuesday.  He said that the Pori Bears have a new phrase "The Epperson Treatment".  I dunno whether to be offended or proud!  Apparently the team came up with it on one of their bus rides.  To refresh your memory Pori is the team that gave me a concussion.  So you can imagine what "The Epperson Treatment" means.  Apparently one of the Pori players was acting up and there head coach looked at him and said "If you don’t quit your gonna get 'The Epperson Treatment'!  So now it is an everyday phase used in Pori

I Googled you!

So Wednesday I walked into Onnela with Juha, Whiteboy and a few others.  Then this girl stops me and asks me how I spell my last name.  I reluctantly told her, and then she said "yep I got it right, I Googled you".  I didn’t know what to think or why she did that but thought I was interesting that some girl that I have no clue what her name is just stopped me to tell me that.  I dunno what she found out about me or why she did it but Whiteboy and I got a huge kick out of it for the rest of the night!
